The Carroll County Forestry Board will host a meet-and-greet exhibit at the Piney Run Fall Festival Sat., Oct 16. The event will be held from 10 AM to 4 PM at Piney Run Park, 30 Martz Rd, in Sykesville, MD.

Drop by the booth to learn more about trees, Maryland’s forests, and the Forestry Board. Find fun stuff for the kids and information about wildfire safety at the Maryland FireWise table. Pick up a potted tree sapling to plant in your yard. The board requests a donation of $5 to$10 for each sapling. Money raised from the saplings will help fund students’ tuition for the Natural Resource Career Camp (NRCC).

Hosted every summer, the NRCC provides Maryland high school students a hands-on learning opportunity to explore natural resources careers such as forestry, wildlife, fisheries, arboriculture, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and more! Last year, the Carroll County Forestry Board sponsored seven local high school students to the camp, more than any other Board in Maryland. All donations for the saplings will be greatly appreciated.

If you come to the table, you might also be lucky enough to encounter Smokey Bear. It is rumored that he might take a break from fighting the California wildfires to make an appearance at 12:15 (National Fire Prevention Week is October 10-16.)

Don’t miss out on this fun and informative opportunity to support a great cause!

The Carroll County Forestry Board, a non-profit volunteer organization, helps to support the mission of the Maryland Department of Natural Resources Forest Service: to “conserve,” “enhance,” and “sustain” local trees and forests.

Reach out to the board at ccforestryboard@gmail.com, or call 410-848-9290 if you have any questions.
